What Is THC Distillate and Why Does Purity Matter in a Disposable Vape?

If you've spent any time looking at disposable cannabis vapes, you've probably noticed that not all of them tell you what's actually inside. Some list percentages. Some don't. Most don't explain what those numbers mean.

At Snap Vapes, we build every product around 95% THC distillate, and we think you should understand exactly why that matters before you buy any disposable vape, ours or anyone else's.

What Is THC Distillate?

THC distillate is cannabis oil that has been refined and purified through a process called short-path distillation. Raw cannabis extract is heated until the THC vaporises, then collected and condensed separately from unwanted compounds like chlorophyll, waxes, and plant matter.

The result is a highly concentrated, near-pure cannabis oil with THC levels typically ranging from 80% to 99%. At 95%, Snap Vapes distillate sits comfortably at the top end of what's achievable while still preserving the terpene profiles that shape each strain's character.

What Are Fillers and Why Should You Avoid Them?

Lower-quality vapes frequently use cutting agents and fillers to increase volume, reduce production costs, or thin out the oil for better flow in cheaper hardware. Common fillers include:

  • Vitamin E acetate: linked to serious lung injury (EVALI) when inhaled
  • Medium-chain triglycerides (MCT oil): a carrier oil not designed for inhalation
  • Propylene glycol and vegetable glycerine: common in nicotine vapes, but unnecessary and potentially harmful in cannabis products
  • Artificial flavourings: added to compensate for low-quality or flavourless extract

When you see a vape priced significantly below market rate with no transparency about what's inside, fillers are almost always part of the reason. You're not getting more product for less money; you're getting diluted product with unknown additives.

Why Lab Testing Is Non-Negotiable

Lab testing is how you verify what's actually in your vape. A credible lab report (also called a Certificate of Analysis, or COA) will confirm:

  • The actual THC percentage
  • The presence or absence of harmful residual solvents
  • Pesticide and heavy metal screening
  • Terpene profile verification

Without lab testing, any percentage printed on a vape is unverified marketing. With it, you know exactly what you're inhaling.

What 95% THC Actually Feels Like

High-purity distillate hits cleaner and more consistently than lower-grade oil. There's less throat irritation, less harsh aftertaste, and a more predictable effect profile. Because the oil is purer, you also need less of it to achieve the same result, which means each Snap Vape lasts longer than it might appear.

The terpenes we reintroduce into each strain (Limonene, Myrcene, Caryophyllene and others, depending on the variety) then shape the flavour and effect character. Terpenes are what make Lemon Cherry Gelato taste like Lemon Cherry Gelato, and what make Durban Poison feel sharp and energising rather than sedating.

What to Look For When Buying a Disposable Vape in South Africa

The South African market is growing fast, and with that growth comes a lot of products of varying quality. When evaluating any disposable vape, ask these questions:

  1. Is the THC percentage lab-verified? If not, treat it as unverified.
  2. Does the brand list their ingredients? Transparency is a good sign. Vagueness isn't.
  3. Is the hardware reputable? Cheap coils and cartridges leach metals into the oil at temperature.
  4. Does the brand have a physical presence or traceable origin? Fly-by-night suppliers have no accountability.

The Snap Vapes Standard

Every Snap Vapes disposable is filled with 95% THC distillate, contains zero fillers or cutting agents, and is lab-tested before it reaches you. We're a proudly South African brand, built on the belief that you shouldn't have to compromise on quality to access premium cannabis.
